Ko Samui Travel Information

Ko Samui (Thai: เกาะสมุย) is a tropical island situated in the Surat Thani Province. It lies at around 35km North-East of Surat Thai Town and around 700km South of Bangkok (80 minute flight). The beautiful island is surrounded by 60 other islands, notable examples include Ko Pha-ngan and Ko Tao. Koh Samui is the third largest island covering an area of approximately 228.7 km². Ko Samui is a tropical haven for many holiday makers, wanting to relax in stunning surroundings. Here they will find beautiful white stretches of sand and warm turquoise waters. The island is unique in the fact that it provides a tropical atmosphere with a cosmopolitan twist. The old capital of Ko Samui is Nathon, which is located on the South-West coast of the island. It is the main port for fishing and also inter-island transport. This quaint area is small enough to walk everywhere eliminating the need for transport.

Ko Samui offers many beautiful beaches. The most popular beach on the island is Chaweng Beach. This beach covers a large area on the North-East coast of Ko Samui. It has been developed into a tourist resort town. Approximately 100 meters back from the sands, is a 1 way beach road packed with restaurants, coffee shops, pubs, tailors, souvenir shops, markets and night clubs. You will never be without something to do or see.
