The Wat Chalong Fair, is a key event in Phuket's event calandar. It is considered to be one of the biggest festivals attracting people from all over Thailand.
The festival and fair takes place this year on 3rd February 2011 at the Wat Chalong Buddhist Temple.
Historically, the Wat Chalong Fair, was enjoyed by the hard working local farmers. Once the harvest had been completed, the farmers would create a funfair on the temple's grounds. The fair was a chance for the farmer's to celebrate their hard work.
The Wat Chalong Fair, runs at the same time as the Chinese New Year celebrations. The local farmers, organize this so that the Phuket residents of Chinese heritage could be included in the celebrations.
The fair is a mixture of shopping, cuisine and entertainment. At the fair you will find many vendors selling everything you can imagine from electrical items to clothing to souvenirs to locally produced goods.
There will also be vendors from all over Thailand, setting up restaurants in the grounds of the temple. You will be able to enjoy an array of Thai food for a reasonable price.
For the entertainment there will be live concerts, appearances from Thai celebrities, Thai dancing, Muay Thai displays and much more.
